How We Charted that the Decade: Billboard’s 2010s decade-end recaps encompass graph performance from Dec. 5, 2009, through Sept. 28, 2019 (except for individuals for the Social 50, that started on Dec. 11, 2010, along with Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Streaming Songs, each of which launched Jan. 26, 2013).

On decade-end Hot Songs and Top Albums recaps, names are rated according to an inverse point system, with months at No. 1 on weekly graphs earning the best value and weeks in lesser ranks earning the very smallest. Due to modifications in graph methodology and name turnover rates over the years, certain intervals were measured differently.

Leading Artists recaps are rated according to a formula mixing performance, as outlined above, of all their graph entries. Specifically, the general Top Artists group rankings the best-performing artists according to action on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart and the Billboard 200 records tally, in addition to social media statistics and touring earnings from Billboard Boxscore, whereas genre-focused Top Artists positions blend acts’ decade-spanning performance on each genre’s chief song and album charts (for example, for nation, Hot Country Songs and Top Country Albums).

Billboard’s decade-end touring graphs are based on Billboard Boxscore data for performances between Dec. 1, 2009, and Sept. 30, 2019.
